A stone house in a quiet cove
Welcome to the Old Captain’s House — a rebuilt stone house on its own pebble cove on the southern side of Brač. No neighbours, no crowds: the sea, the pines, and the crickets.
Local craftsmen rebuilt this very old stone house to its original splendour and furnished it with care, down to the smallest detail. From the terrace there is a panoramic view over the sea and the islands of Vis, Hvar and Paklenjaci. Ten metres below the house, a calm pebble beach waits for the first morning swim.
The whole property lives with nature: solar panels power the house and heat the water, the cistern collects rainwater, the pools use salt water instead of chlorine, and the little Mediterranean garden is tended organically. Authenticity and comfort, off the grid.

The house sleeps six in three bedrooms — two with double beds, one with two singles — with two bathrooms and a third room with a toilet and washing machine. The indoor kitchen is fully equipped, from a 4-burner gas hob and large fridge-freezer to a coffee machine and everything needed to cook a proper dinner.
During your stay the entire house and yard are yours alone, with parking right next to the house.
In front of the house, the yard holds a summer kitchen with a large grill, a gas oven, and an imposing stone dining table under the pergola. Two small saltwater pools sit on the terrace — one for adults, one for children — with a shaded area and six sun loungers.
Evenings belong to the barbecue, the stone table, and the sound of the sea.

Boats & boards
Two boats and a calm bay
Guests can rent one of our two boats, with or without a skipper — and we give discounts to house guests, especially for multi-day rentals. A category B boat licence is required to drive yourself; if you don’t have one, we’ll arrange a skipper. Book your favourite vessel when you book the house.
Speedy 590 Evo — a 6.2 m motorboat with a Mercury 115 hp outboard, room for 7, regularly serviced and fitted with all safety equipment.
Ven 501 — a 6 m motorboat for 6, with a 10 hp engine, a small cabin and a bimini top — easy-going and perfect for exploring nearby coves.
Prefer a slower pace? Two stand-up paddleboards are free for guests. The bay is calm and sheltered — mornings and evenings, when the sea is glass, are the best time out.

On foot & by bike
Hiking — walk a stretch of Via Brattia, the 140 km circular trail linking the island’s villages and twelve of its most striking cultural sites. Vidova gora, the highest peak of all Croatian islands, rewards the climb with the famous view over Zlatni rat and Hvar.
Cycling — Brač keeps 25 marked cycle routes, named after patron saints, winds and Mediterranean plants. Our favourite is “Srce Brača” (Heart of Brač), past ten medieval and Renaissance churches and the island’s oldest villages.
In & under the water
Diving — visibility up to 50 metres, endemic sea life, sunken Roman galleys. Organised tours for experienced divers, schools for first-timers.
Fishing — the coves around the house are rich fishing grounds. Quiet mornings at sea, then dinner from the day’s catch. (A licence is required — see the questions below.)
Places to see
Blaca Hermitage — a monastery founded in 1551 into the cliffs, keeping 12,000 old books, maps and a telescope. The Dragon’s Cave above Murvica — carved reliefs where pagan and Christian worlds meet, unexplained to this day.
The Olive Oil Museum in Škrip shows how the island has pressed its oil for centuries; the Brač Island Museum next door sits inside a fortress with a Roman mausoleum.
Brač stone built palaces from Diocletian’s onward — see the craft alive at the Pučišća Stonemasonry School and the carving workshops.
Milna, our nearest town, is one of the most harmonious Baroque harbours on the coast — restaurants, cafés, a market and a promenade, fifteen minutes away. Further on, Ložišća, Bobovišća and Sutivan feel like time stopped.

Questions guests ask
How do we get to the island of Brač?
By car, bus or train, first reach Split or Makarska, then take the ferry: Split–Supetar (about 50 minutes) or Makarska–Sumartin (about 60 minutes). Supetar suits arrivals from Split; Sumartin suits the Makarska and Dubrovnik direction. In July and August the Split ferry runs up to 14 times a day. Timetables: Jadrolinija.
By plane, the nearest airports are Split and Dubrovnik — or fly directly to Brač airport, about an hour’s drive from the house, where several car-hire agencies operate.
How do we reach the house itself?
The address is Smrka 51, Nerežišća, on the southern shore — 43°17′43″N, 16°29′04″E. From Milna it’s 3 km of asphalt and then about 3 km of well-kept gravel road; we recommend an SUV for that last stretch. We can also arrange a taxi car, a taxi boat or a speedboat transfer, including airport pick-up and return.
Is there secure parking?
Yes — a large, safe parking area for several vehicles right by the house, with room for boat trailers.
Are pets welcome?
Yes, pets are allowed and welcomed.
Is there a berth for our boat?
A free, secure berth in front of the house takes boats up to 7 m. If you need a boat lift, we can organise one in Milna, 6 km away.
Where do we shop for groceries?
Milna, fifteen minutes by car, has a market, a butcher, a bakery, cafés and restaurants. The big supermarkets (Konzum, Tommy, Lidl) are in Supetar, about 45 minutes away. Fresh fish comes straight from local fishermen in the nearby coves.
Where are the closest beaches?
The nearest one is the pebble beach ten metres in front of the house, and every cove east or west hides another. Zlatni rat at Bol — one of Europe’s most famous beaches — is about an hour away by small speedboat. Sand lovers should visit Lovrečina near Postira, where the sand runs a hundred metres out.
Does the house have air conditioning?
Yes — powered by the solar system, so it runs from 9 am to 5 pm; cooling fans are available around the clock. The house’s stone construction and position keep it pleasant even without it, and the afternoon maestral wind brings refreshment off the sea.
What about electricity and water?
This is Robinson-style accommodation: electricity comes from solar panels (220 V) and water is rainwater from the cistern, suited for showering and dishes — both to be used with reasonable care.
What is the minimum stay?
Five nights in May and October, seven nights from June to September.
Where are the nearest restaurants?
The house is deliberately secluded — the nearest restaurants are in Milna, and almost all of them serve an excellent mix of traditional and modern Dalmatian cooking.
Is fishing allowed?
Yes, with a licence — required for recreational and sport fishing anywhere in Croatian waters, from shore or boat. The coves around the house are ideal grounds. Licences and rules: Croatian Ministry of Agriculture.
